Bio

Strengths & Priorities

I am a dedicated researcher who loves problem solving under uncertainty. My background spans cognitive and behavioral science, neurophysiology, molecular and computational biology, applied statistics, and machine learning. I am most interested in pursuing advances in human health via translational research with a focus on biomarker discovery, multi-omics, and systems biology. I am an experienced researcher, a talented data analyst, and a sharp thinker who has formal training in project management and experience working in and with poly- and cross-functional teams.

I am always open to new collaborations, contract and consulting work, as well as dreaming about new ways to make this world better and humans healthier and happier. Feel free to check out my resume or reach out by e-mail.

Companies I worked with include: Bryleos, Thorne HealthTech, Roche Genentech, Gilead Biosciences, iCarbonX US, Finasteride Association, BioAnalytica, MindTrust, and Arivale. At Arivale, I was a Statistical Geneticist of a direct-to-consumer genetic testing and scientific wellness program. Having worked in both academia and industry and served as the interface between them, I get particularly excited about agile and disruptive projects that small biotech and healthcare tech companies are uniquely poised to execute.

Career Path

My early career focused on measurement and individual differences in human cognitive and personality traits. I have (co)-developed the first psychometric tests of spoken Russian and Arabic development for adults and children, respectively. My interest in individual differences ultimately led to my pursuing hybrid training at UConn (Go Huskies!), Yale, and Haskins Labs that brought together behavior, brain, and genetic data for the first time in a study of developmental language disorders. One of the key outcomes of my graduate research was the discovery of the role of a gene called SETBP1 in developmental language disorders; a finding since robustly replicated by multiple groups. In another line of work, I have established several portable EEG labs and designed a number of cross-modal experimental paradigms to study the neurophysiological effects of adversity and limits of neuroplasticity (this work was supported by the Russian Foundation for Fundamental Research and the National Institutes of Health).

More recently I have focused on multi-omics as applied to the systems biology of human health and disease, with a particular focus on blood proteomics and metabolomics. I was privileged to have worked with some of the most talented people I met at Institute for Systems Biology, including a pioneer in the fields of genomics and precision medicine Dr. Leroy Hood. As a Senior Research Scientist at ISB, I supported its multi-omic and in silico research programs, acted as PI on its UK BioBank Project, and interfaced with external collaborators from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. This includes designing, conducting, and analyzing data from observational and clinical trials investigating the systemic effects of therapeutics such as anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies, statins, and metabolic activators.

Frivolous Bonus

In my free time, I am an avid gamer and baker, a proud pet dad, a loving partner, and a hopeless sensation seeker. It is my firm opinion that one has not lived if one had never tried good Tiramisu, that dogs should be able to pee on grass and cannot read warning signs, and that together we can make this world better.

P.S. I agree with Dr. Avi Loeb: "Science is an expression of love for the Universe". Life sciences are an expression of love for life. Translational science is an expression of love for humanity.
